Began my own consulting business involving web site and UI design and implementation as well as installing and troubleshooting PC software and networks (wired and wireless). Clients include Mailboxes, the Business Center, Lentz Real Estate, Cisco Systems, Jo's Sea Village Kona Condo and Mountain Tree Kona Coffee Estate. The web site for Makahiki Farms 100% Kona Coffee won second place in the 2003 Kona Coffee Cultural Festival web site design contest.

June 2002 - September 2002: Rasvia Systems, Inc., Sunnyvale, CA
Consultant responsible for prototyping a UI for managing and monitoring a storage appliance. Worked with a UI designer to create a prototype in JavaScript & DHTML to simulate the product for usability testing prior to development in Java. Also did some maintenance on existing code involving VxWorks, JNI and Java.

January 2001 - February 2002: Extensity, Inc., Emeryville, CA (tele-commute)
Consultant responsible for maintenance and enhancements to existing Java Swing-based graphical tools for editing Extensity application objects from prior project, see below. Wrote server and client enhancements to support a new tools effort for professional services to use during customization.

December 2000 - January 2001: OmniSky, Inc., Palo Alto, CA (tele-commute)
Consultant: developed a usability prototype UI for a future handheld/Palm application.

Consultant responsible for developing a Java AWT-based graphical tool to view and modify control definitions for Extensity application development and customization.

January 1999 - December 1999: Connex, Inc, San Jose, CA
Consultant responsible for helping to complete the first release of a Java application for managing storage devices that made extensive use of OOAD. Helped design and develop a web browser application for MSIE 4.0/5.0 using Javascript and DHTML.

September 1998 - December 1998: Compaq Computer, Tandem Division, Cupertino, CA
Consultant responsible for enhancement and update of a prototype GUI database tool application using MFC, Visual C++ 5.0 on Windows NT 4.0 to make it suitable to ship as a product. Wrote requirements, external and internal design documents, completed implementation and test.

March 1998 - September 1998: Geoffrey G. Peck Consulting, San Jose, CA (tele-commute)
Consultant responsible for porting GTE DUATS, a terminal-based aviation pilot-briefing application, and AIS, a similar product, from a Sequoia to ANSI C on a DEC Alpha and on Redhat Linux. Wrote tools to convert binary databases to the new machine architecture. Helped develop software release procedures, documentation and test plan. Worked closely with the client to deploy the application nationally, and provided first-line support throughout the roll-out phase.

October 1996 - March 1998: Tandem Computers, Cupertino, CA
Consultant responsible for design & implementation of UI components for managing SQL/MX on NT. Work involved writing OCX's and snapin code for managing the SQL database components of the product that integrates into Microsoft Management Console. Design is a Distributed COM based client-server architecture using MFC, OLE & Visual C++ 4.2 & 5.0 on NT 4.0.

January 1996 - September 1996: Silicon Graphics, Mountain View, CA
Consultant responsible for design & implementation of a UI to unify SGI's graphics file format translators. Wrote several demonstration programs for trade shows and marketing including Java applets, Netscape plugins, & an Open Inventor-based sailboat racing game. Updated, reorganized and fixed the SDRC translator. Worked with the Inspector team on the Inventor-to-Inspector translation. Maintenance update for Annotator.
